Sihanoukville

This is a good base from which to explore the tropical islands dotted off Cambodia's west coast. Koh Khtea and Koh Ta Kiev are worth a daytrip, places where you can enjoy some great snorkelling. If you're looking for an overnight stay, head down to Koh Rung, Koh Pos or Bamboo Island. If you don't feel like leaving the mainland, head down to Victory Beach (the backpacker hang out) or Occhenteal Beach (great sand bars and restaurants)

Siem Reap

This is the gateway to the amazing temples of Angkor, one of the few relics the Khmer Rouge failed to destroy. Tree roots crawl over ancient stone into which many intricate bas reliefs have been carved. These temples have to be seen to be believed.

Phnom Pehn

Before the Khmer Rouge ravaged the country, Cambodia's capital was known as the Pearl of Asia. The city is slowly rebuilding and there is plenty to see. Head down to the Silver Pagoda at the royal place and walk on silver. To unravel Cambodia's dark history, head to the Tuol Sleng Museum. There are numerous food stalls around the city where you can experience food infused with Cambodia's unique flavours. After you have lined your stomach, have a drink or three at one of Phnom Peng's lively bars.
